Plastic Molding

Is it possible to paint the plastic molding on the two tone Jimmy and Blazers? The bottom of my truck is grey and the top part is Burgundy. Any help would be useful.

Re: Plastic Molding

plastic doesnt like to hold paint, you can get krylon (sp?) and paint then clear coat it and hope it doesnt chip off right away

Plastic will hold paint fine if done correctly..(look at the bumper covers)... Prep with a good prep solution, use a good adheasive promotor (bulldog comes to mind) And use a flex agent in the paint. Then use about 3 coats of clear (with flex agent) And you won't have to worry about chipping.

When they are molded, yes, the color is injected into the plastic itself for interior, but when the car/truck is actually painted, the bumper plastic, grilles, etc are painted to match.. Plastic in general is all the same. Again, prepped and painted properly it won't crack/chip.

The silver stripe on my bumper cover is practically non-existant right now. It's revealing the ugly yellow of the plastic beneath hahaha

Would you guys suggest the same painting process for this? I was thinking of taping the graphite off and using a brush to keep the "brushed" silver effect, but also of possibly spraying.

Re: Plastic Molding

Go to the dealer and get another bumper trim strip.

Re: Plastic Molding

It isn't a trim strip... It's a recessed painted surface and the silver paint (or whatever) is wearing away.

Please neglect the red arrow...
