Re: Opinion-Please Post
Hmmm, lets see...I like the performance and the gas mileage of my car. High 15's in the quarter mile and 30 miles per gallon isn't too shabby in my book. That kind of performance is quite respectable for an economy car. One thing that could be better is the room inside the car, but if it were bigger, you'd be sacrificing gas mileage and/or performance. Maybe thats a couple ideas to throw around and start with.

i like that they're economical and less to maintain (plugs, wires, air filter, etc.) lighter engine is a plus, especially when it comes to weight ratio. 4 cylinders makes it cheaper to get head work done, and for that matter block work too
performance could use some work. mid 15's is good for our cars, but i think you were talking about 4 bangers in general. in which case 17's+ is pretty damn slow. oh, and how about that damn vibrating 4 cylinders get after a few years, i haven't seen any 6 or 8's out there doing that |

Re: Opinion-Please Post
A fairly significant power loss when put next to a V6 or something. But then you just have to realize, they arent built to be fast. Very economical.
One big downside is no deep throaty rumble when you put a Cherry Bomb on

Re: Opinion-Please Post
Down side..
The annoying valve knock in cold weather start ups, the shitty no get up and go ( stock ), the lack or performance mods at good prices, the notorious GM leaky head gaskets ( knock on wood i don't have it ), Didn't come with a tach, only gets about 230 per tank due to my mainly stop and go driving.. just to name a few.. What i do like... Roomy ( 4 door ) and spotless interrior, simplisty of fixing things, uhh... the rest of what i like are aftermarket parts.

Re: Opinion-Please Post
thanks you guys help alot. I will put a few about mine,
I like the room inside (also a four door) and the get up and go (well on cavalier's anyway) and the gas. I don't like the room under the hood (lack there of) the fact they are cheaply designed, don't last compared to a v6 or v8. (depends on how you drive it and take care of it) |

Re: Opinion-Please Post
I think the for the most part 4 bangers are pretty good cars for the money. yes they are somewhat cheaply made but as in all walks of life you get what you pay for. and thats why most people get them because they are "CHEAP" compaired to other cars

No really, though, I live in a rural area so my daily driving is not like pure city stop and go. Its not like pure highway driving, either. Its kind of like a blend between the 2, so I'm sure I could get worse mileage if I lived in town somewhere. I just did about 250 miles of highway driving today, so I bet I got around 32 mpg, judging by the trip odometer and the position of the fuel gauge, compared to how it normally is. Real scientific, I know. I'll probably fill it and check the mileage tomorrow.

Re: Opinion-Please Post
Two words, Gas Prices!
All those suckers out there with V8's are going broke. Fact is 4-bangers use less than half the fuel of a V8. One more word, Handling! A lighter motor and lack of a heavy frame make 4-bangers better for handling. |
