Spark Arrester Question..!!!!!!!1

okay.. this may sound stupid, but I dont know what a spark arrester does or is. I am going up to Silver Lake Dunes this June and they say you need a spark arrester and something about the muffler. Right now I have Hedman hedders and dual flowmaster mufflers and I am just hoping that i dont exceed the 94 decibel limit. But anyway, can someone tell me if i have spark arresters on my 86' chevy. Im so confused. Thank you

That usually just means you can't have straight pipes. A muffler almost always counts as a spark arrester If it backfired, flames would shoot out of the exhaust more easily.

As long as your not ever shooting flames out the pipes you should be OK. Check it after dark if your not sure.

That means it is probably safe, but they still won't let you in without a muffler. If a spark arrestor is required, they check to make sure there is one on it. If you got to an extreme angle and the engine died, you could flood the cylinders (wouldn't probably happen with fuel injection... maybe in a very rare case). When you start it back up, liquid gas will most likely be shot into the exhaust, and there is a good chance it would ignite.

a spark arrester cools the exhaust so any sparks coming from the motor gets burned off befor it can start a fire on dry brush.

hit up the 4x4 fourms thay will have all the info on them and ware to get one. some places thay say you got to have them on motorcycles but not trucks if thay have a muffler. its strange since a cat will get hot enuff to start a fire but thay say you need them.

Re: Spark Arrester Question..!!!!!!!1

a "spark arrestor" is any muffler that is not a "straight through" design.

Your flowmaster's are most likely not straight through mufflers, so you will be fine.
