vg30et swap to dett
I have seen the threads about putting the dett into n/a cars that already have a de in them, but I was wondering if anyone had done the swap from the vg30et to the dett? I don’t know if the vg30et and vg30dett transmissions are about the same or not, my transmission has already been build up to handle high horsepower and it would b really nice if I could keep it. I do understand that z's are rwd and i am fwd, but im assuming if the rwd trans works for both engines then hopefuly my fwd trans would work for both engines. If not im thinking about geting the trans of of one of the newer maxima's that has a vg30de and then the dett should bolt up on the fwd set up i think, i would of course have to build up the trans though. If someone can help me out and let me know what needs to b done for this swap I would appreciate it.

k3 would probably be able to tell you best, he's got 1 of each, but i'm pretty sure they're not the same

well what i am tols is the z 31 engine mounts and the maximas(aka any fwd) are different i dont know if its a rumor or not if not let me know i wanna be stupid and make a turbo with na pistons and if i could just buy a 3.0 fwd outa junkyard and drop it in with my cams that would be sweet lol

i could definatly see there being an issue with motor mounts, but i could chop up an n/a 300 from a junk yard and weld in the motor mounts from it

your biggest problem is going to be getting the drivetrain to work. your trying to bolt an engine that was never meant for a FWD car into one. heres what i know...
the VG30DE(TT) will not mate to a Z31 transmission...similar but the Z31 tranny's bell housing is about 2 inches less around in diameter, but it does look the same...which means it will not mate to your maxima tranny. so your gonna have to try and swap bellhousings or get a custom adapter plate built (which i dont even know if it is possibly for that big of a change)... another problem is gonna be clearance...your going to have to turn the VG30DE(TT) transverally in the engine bay to compensate for the FWD...i dont even know if this is possibly and then if it is your going to have to custom make every piece of hose and piping there is on the VG, which is alot. and another clearance issue im sure will be the hood, which isnt a big deal but a deal none the less. then your probably gonna have to deal with more than your transmission handling the power. how about your axles and front crossmember that your probably going to have to supprt the motor on, which will move. bottom line, i cant imagine one piece of that front end if that car is going to be simple or bolt on...everything will ahve to be customized, from the intercoolers, to the radiator, to the axles. im not trying to steer you away, just trying to give you a better idea of what your your trying to do...anything is possible with the right amount of fabrication and money. if i were you, just build a VG30ET to handle the extra power. this will save you the money, time, and migraine of trying to make a VG30DETT work. especially the money... it would probably be easier to make your car RWD with N/A parts than to make the VG30DETT FWD. just my i hope this puts it in better perspective for you but dont take it the wrong way.

on another note them turbos are probabaly kinda tricky to mounth in them spaces though just on that note
anyway on another note hows about the different tranny bell housing you say?? i thought (was hopeing )that with it being a vg series that the blocks where relatively tghe same minus maybe an oil passage or coolant passage but are they not you say i though that a vg30et had the same block as a vg30det only the det was dual overhead twin turbo and the vg30et was single overhead single turbo??? anybody know for sure??? how about pistons anybody know about them??? cause if an na vg30de hasd the same piston type(size and stuff aka will fit) as a vg30e only hiogher compression ill take a set if anyone has them laying around and would be willing to donate them lol cause i wanna make a vg30et with higher compression i know your not supposed to but i bet it would be bad a$$ until it poped but till the4n wow |

bottom line, nothing is directly interchangable. like i said, you may be able to change bell housings for the transmission to work but your looking at alot of money to get the engine even mounted in the bay along with all the other necessities. i would keep your compression ratio...it wouldnt even be worth the time or money to swap in a higher compression piston because its not gonna last very long. just get some forged drop-in pistons that mate with your engine, new rods, and ARP's....then boost the friggin s*** out of it.

well then comes the money part im friggin poor (not entirely but i spend all my flow on my car and cant save money and what wouldnt last the rings and i was just goin to spend the weekend swapping the entire engines and (aka block and heads ) AND SWAP THE CAMS TO THE TURBO CAMS i figure its probably gonna net a quick 350 with my other mods

thought of swapping out the stock one for the block and heads out of a pathfinder for the compressoin so i dont pop my heads or block or something id only damage my 140 bucks but id probably find a few suckers to take fopr a couple more lol all its gotta do is last for a 1/4 or 2 under boost
