Question steering wheel lock

Here's a question for you guys..
I haven't had time or a chance to bring my car in for its first scheduled service work yet for an answer, so I thought I'd run it by the group here for some input first.
The steering on my "new" 2001 does not seem to lock when the key is removed. The manual claims the wheel locks.....?
I didnt think anything of it at first tho, because the brand new
2002 Dodge Stratus I drive at work seems to be the same way.
But, it's starting to bug me the more I think about it.
Is this normal? Would this be a complicated fix if it's not? thanks!

The wheel doesn't always get locked when you remove the key... Try turning the wheel with the key out. It should lock itself roughly within 1/2 - 3/4 turns. If it doesn't - get it fixed. The faulty wheel lock can be very problematic - what if it locks up at high speed in a bend?

Good luck

yep, my 2001 doesn't lock with only like 1/8th turn. I like it because when I wanna back out my car from the garage to wash it, I don't even have to start the engine. just push it back with my foot...and I can still steer it enough to get it to where I wan it! with my other cars (Honda's) they lock if you turn it slightly...which is good for security reasons, I guess...

Just checked mine and it locks after 4-5" of turning the steering wheel.
