advice on new teg

I just sold my teg, and im going to buy another 3rd gen. one with less mileage than the one i had (130 000 miles). i have around 9 grand to spend and was planning on buying one with less mileage because i plan on keeping it for a long time. I want to run a little more horsepower than stock (around 50 horsepower more) but i would be using this car every day to cruise around but i dont care about power when im just daily driving, i only really want the power when im racing (once in a while). I was thinking about buying a GS-R and keep it stock or that i should buy an LS and spray it with a small shot, which would be convenient since N2O would only stress my engine when im pushing it. If i ran a small shot on an engine with 60 000 miles would it be likely i would have to rebuild the internals considering i would be spraying not very often (yes i know 60 000 miles doesnt say much but lets assume it was owned by a man in his 40s who barely pushed the engine) and if it is recommended that i rebuild the internals what would i need to rebuild to get a reliable setup? or would buying a gs-r just be cheaper/more reliable. BTW reliability is high priority thanks a lot for any advice.

I highly rate stock over nitrous. I think that reliability will come from stock definatly. If you want to spray, you will have to do similar work to preparing to turbo. Better fuel system, no leaning while spraying... that sucks. I don't like nitrous anywhere near daily driving. I love my GSR and love the vtec power. The nice thing about it, is that I don't have to always use the power of the car. Daily driving I'm going to about 2,700 rpms, and then shifting. This gets me by very well just driving.... If I want a little more speed just bring the revs up, all the way to 8k if I really want to go.

130,000 brand new? i would say thats a bit. How many miles do you think you an integra could go for, with just regular maintance, no rebuild or anything? just curouise.

As for the question at hand, for 9 grand you could get a very sweet GS-R, and NOS? who needs it, if i were you, i would just get some simple bolt-ons (intake, exhast, headers) those, and vtec, and you will have a good amount of power.

I bought my intega with 139,000 and I have now brought it up to about 170-175ish thousand miles..

I have replaced a water pump and a throw out bearing because they needed replacing. other than that... only minor things I wanted to replace such as timing belt, and clutch when I fixed T/O bearing.

oh and I drive it HARD... and I mean everyday and anyday. I mean I go to get gas and I redline it in every gear it takes to get there. sooo yeah its a sturdy engine and transmission..

Re: advice on new teg

I have a 91 LS as a daily driver that i beat the shit pout of. It has 230, 000 miles on it now and runs strong. No rebuild, just regular maintanance.

B18 motors are strong motors and to say the least, "reliable."

I have seen a stock b18a with minor bolt ons, (header, intake) reach 400,000+ miles and still run without smoke. I witnessed that first hand. In a 4 door to boot Don't get me wrong, that was extrodinary, but 130k maintained is not that bad. 230k I might cringe a bit. lol

A 50 shot from lets say a zex or venom kit would not be hateful. It will likely not result in any engine damage as it is computer controlled and will disengage before detonation occurs. A NOS kit may be different. Just the same with a directly wired kit, you are looking at how long of a 50 shot burst is being sprayed and how it is being managed.

Personally, at 60k, i would just run a small turbo setup at about 6-7psi. Run a colder plug and a quality fuel management. A t25 or 14b turbo would pair quite nicely with an ls and would set you just under 200whp in ideal conditions at 5-7psi. You could piece together a kit for anywhere from 500.00-2000.00 or so. It will be a tad more demanding of the engine, but with proper maintanence and not slacking on the oil changes and preventative mainanence, you would be very happy.
Much more so than paying to refill the bottle every weekend
