Mirror cracked

I have a 00 Windstar with a cracked mirror. Is it possible to change just the mirror or must I replace the entire assembly. I want to just replace the glass mirror part if possible.

HELP.................

TY

Re: Mirror cracked

I assume you mean the outside mirrow. Do some shopping at aftermarket stores such as Advance Auto, AutoZone, etc ... and look at their mirrow repair packages. The idea is to paste a new mirrow atop the old shattered glass. Some of these stick-on mirrows come pre-shaped, ... some you shape by nibbling the edges slowly with diagonal wire cutters.

I made such a repacement on daughter's car a couple of years ago....seems to be working fine.

Re: Mirror cracked

A couple of years ago I replaced JUST the GLASS on the driver's side outside mirror.
I bought an exact fit replacement from www.rockauto.com
I cost me less than $20, including shipping and sales tax.
The replacement came with the adhesive and everything.
Look under "BODY" parts.....once you drill down to your year/car

My passenger mirror had a crack perfectly down the middle of it when I bought my 97. Before I looked closely at it I told my wife and kids that it was an expensive factory option. You know, the split magnifyed part and a regular mirror in one. They kept saying are you sure?? It has a crack...no family..it's not a crack it's just where the two mirrors are factory bonded!
Later...quietly... I took it to a place called Capital Auto glass and 12 bucks later I had a new mirror glued in...without the factory option!

I think too, if you stop by a glass place that deals with home and auto glass they will cut you a mirror to fit it and pop the old one out for you.
Call and ask them.. . seems like I heard this done before.
