Re: question

As far as I know, most companies make 3 piece CAI. You'll have two pieces of the pipe, and then the filter. Due to the fact that rain can easily splash up from where the Filter is positioned (on my Civ), I didn't use the second piece just the longer piping from the TB. It pretty much is like a short ram, but a little longer so it sits right where the original air box used to be. Thus there is no rain splash, no chances of bogging the engine (water coming through the intake into the engine), and I still get the desired air and power supplied from the intake. I don't know exactly how the air box is situated inside the motor of the TC. But I figured that you could use the same idea as I have, just use the longer piping for the intake and set your filter wherever that ends (like I said, I'm not familiar with the TC motor). Try ebay to find something there too. I know it sounds cheap, but you'll more than likely find what you want. L8...

Re: question

When i had my TC i was going to get an Injen CAI. Seeing as the AEM cold air intake costs alot more. Your not gunna see any gains putting a cold air intake on your car, your best bet would be to go with the K&N drop in that they sell at your local scion dealership and cost waaayyyyyy less, CAI they have for the TC are quite expensive your looken at 250 + and not much of a HP gain. The rain wont hurt your CAI much unless you drive through alot of puttles, then you have the possability of water lock. Short Ram is basically a CAI that has been chopped in half. You will def not notice any difference with this intake. Your basically taking Warm air from your engine bay and putting it back into your engine.

a cold air intake will give you the best gains compared to a hot air intake ( a.k.a short ram ) esp after your car has been sitting in traffic for a bit.

the main problem with cold air intakes is that when you hit a puddle, it has a very big chance of it drawing in water into your engine. now since water is not compressable like air, your goin to hydrolock your engine. the water will have no where to go and in the best case scenario your engine gets flooded and you stall. the usual scenario is that the water has no where to do and you end up bending your connecting rod or bend your valves as the water trys to move to another place during compression.

AEM has addressed this problem by creating a cold air intake by pass valve. what this valve does is that when theres water in the intake tract, it will cause the by pass valve to open up and draw air in from the valve ( located in the engine bay ) as oppose to drawing air in through the filter. a long time ago super street tested it on the head of hte R & D of AEM's car. his car also happens to be a NSX. when they completely submerged the filter into the fish tank, non of the water got into the engine.

As long as you dont drive into any deep puddles then I wouldnt worry about it. the worst case is like tat said.....water in engine = teh blown engine! but I had a CAI in my eclipse for ages and just kept a close watch on the weather. it rarely floods around my area unless it rains straight for three days so whenever the rain season would draw near I'd switch intakes (cant street race during that season anyway!) just be smart about it and keep an eye out for deep puddles.

Civricer? Grow up. Maybe you should do some research about the 92-95 Civic engine bay. See where the air box sits. But first read my post, then research, then come back with a more intelligent remark. Maybe you'll atleast somewhat understand what I meant.

Thanks to all for sticking up for me. Greatly appreciated it.

As far as Silentscreams goes, I only made a suggestion of what I did to keep water away from the filter. I researched a little more into the TC, and pretty much TatII summed up everything. Go with the CAI, and get a bypass valve to go along with it. You won't have to worry about puddles, and you'll get the cool air you need. L8...

Re: question

CAI WAI they are both gonna yield the same amount of HP, prolly 3-5HP, not a whole lot. Def not worth more than 50 bucks. And no CAI isnt better than WAI or make more HP. So many people never take into account that when the car is moving, cold air passing over and through the engine. So its getting the same temp air as if it were in the wheel well.

Re: question

Back to the origional question, I sugest doing what I did.. I first found the largest diamiter intake adapter and then look through a K&N product sheet and find the bigest lenght filter for that diamiter and measure the clearance in your car and boom.. cheep filter with very high flow from K&N. Heres what mine looks like, cost me $66 shipped for the filter and adaptor.

Re: question

My CAI sits behind the wheel, but with the splash gaurd still emplaced, just above teh air damn, to the right and behind the front left fog light. Unless Im driving through about a foot of water, I dont need to worry about it. Its also a one piece unit, made outa CF. 300 bucks, thats about 100-200 less than the Dinan. The intake alone wont yeild a ton of power for you car, but my understanding is that, combined with software/chip, your intake will help yeild some decent gains.
