2001 cavalier safe engine?

The 2.2l, is it a non-interference engine??
I'm having probs with the tensioner i think and would like to know if the chain jumps too many teeth if i'm gonna bend a valve.

Re: 2001 cavalier safe engine?

if ur mechanically inclined enough- remove the timing chain cover and replace the tensioner/s you feel are bad.. it'll need to be re-timed afterwards, but it's a lot let expensive than having the chain skip teeth and screwing up internals..

skipping teeth not only bends valves- but depending on what RPM the chain skips at- u can bend vales, gouge pistons, knick cams, not to mention the actual head itself can get pretty messed up to the point where it's not even reusable with machine work.
