94 Accord Cam/Crank Oil Leak

Replaced the crankshaft and camshaft seals when I did the timing belts. Now I have a minor oil leak. I assume it's from one of the replaced seals. Should I have used a sealant on the outside of the seals? Suggestions welcome before I dive in again. Thanks.

No. No sealant on seals. What did you use to drive them in? Did you do the balance shaft or oil pump or whatever it is seals too?

I didn't do the balance shafts seals. I pressed the cam seal in with my fingers and the crank seal with a PVC pipe coupling. The coupling seemed to be a "nearly" perfect fit. Both seals seemed to go in without a problem. I had this same problem when I had the work done professionally the last time. Just wondering if there is something I am overlooking. Not my first motor/seal job but it is the first Honda. Thx.

90 - 97 accords are known to have bad balance shaft seals. there's a kit you can buy that gives you the seal and a retaining bracket. the only way to be sure where the leak is coming from is to remove the timing cover and go from there.

Unhappy

After removing the timing cover I saw that the oil was coming from the dipstick tube and out the bottom of the timing cover. Apparantly the O-ring wasn't seated well enough. Honda says to replace this ring each time the tube is removed. I put in a new ring and some RTV for good measure. Wish I had known this before going down the timing cover road again.
