Re: Sick of pop up ads

I agree with you guys, however I've always had popup blockers while on this site so I don't know what they are advertising for.

I don't like windows for the most part but I have to admite the newest version of winxp does have a good popup blocker built in

Quit using Internet Explorer and use Mozilla Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ . I have not gotten one single popup since starting to use it a year ago. It's a free download.

I haven't used it as a browser yet, but I just downloaded it a few days ago as a web page building program... and it's a nice program to work with.

Netscape is ok too

Re: Sick of pop up ads

hey, y'all. Try using Norton system works or Norton Internet security. I do not get pop-ups 99% of the time on any site, and I get 0 percent here. on sites that have sponsored pop ups, Norton pushes them to the background, abd has a neat little trick of allowing you to drag it to the trash can and block that pop up forever.

i hate norton, such a big file it makes any computer run slower then its capabilitie, if you dont beleve me down load something, then turn off norton and re-download it, if you have a broadband connection it will run much quicker, if your on a dial up connection, your internet wont run faster, its only got like 50kbps anyways

If running internet security slows a broadband connection/dialup connection, you might want to check that disk monitor or disk doctor is not active. Internet security runs as a background utility, and uses virtually no RAM. The host program for Internet Security is a pagefile program and uses shared memory that is dependent on the bus speed of your disk. The running of IS is written to your startup file, and is stored in the registry. Visiting the Norton website can help diagnose these issues. I have a side business doing repair/installs for issues such as these, am A+ MCP and MCSE cert., and recommend this program to all my clients.

Just my
I have learned many things from this web fourm, and have improved my own confidence when working w/ my 94 blazer playtoy. I just wanted to share any knowledge that I may have. Thanks.

Re: Sick of pop up ads

What does this have to do with trucks anyways? Just make sure you pay attention when you install stuff like msn, yahoo, and aol messenger. There are check boxes that ask if you want yahoo tollbar and stuff like that. Most people just hit next until its done. Also, dont click on all that precision time and all those bull shit screensavers and things that claim your pc is running slow. Watch what you download.

Re: Sick of pop up ads

general rule of thumb for people who dont "do" computers well, if you dont know how to diagnos a pc problem, then dont download things, stuff like weather bug are nothing but viruses waiting to happen

Re: Sick of pop up ads

I haven't gotten any popups on this site with XP since I started running it 3 months ago, so you might have spyware giving you the grief.

Lavasoft has a good free spyware remover that might help you out

Re: Sick of pop up ads

Get spybot search and destroy. It is just like lavasoft but it makes your system immune to some spyware.
