I guess I was looking a good reason to remove it. Sounds easy to do.So when the weather up here in Wisconsin gets warmer.I`ll give it a try.

If you like a quiet car, leave it on.
If you would like to hear the engine more, take it off.

I got a 95 4.6, and one days was like "screw it" let me do this (being that i've read so much about it).. It took me about 20 minutes, and i did notice the cars throttle response was a "hair" stronger. You will hear a "WIIIIIISSSSH" noise at full throttle...which sounds good.

BTW, i didn't notice squat on my gas mileage. While your doing that, take off the entire intake and clean her up good...get some throttle cleaner and clean up all that black carbon on the throttle plate, along with changing your filter. I bet the car will thank you.

Maybe not.
Here is a good thread from Modular Depot talking about Accufab plenum/tb whistle?.
Read what SCT Guy (a.k.a. Jerry Wroblewski) has to say about throttle body coatings.
Jerry (a.k.a. SCT Guy) is the "J" in the "J-mod" for the 4R70W transmission.

Okay I did it but ?

After taking out the filter box and reaching in the mud shield ,I pulled out what looked like a L shaped tube,I did not find any box that looked like a silencer, just the tube,I guess who had the car before I got it must of removed the silencer. Now should I put the L shaped tube back on.I did see inside of the intake and it was very clean.

Re: Air Silencer Removal ?

yea sounds like the previous owner removed the silencer. leave that tube. it'll draw in some cold air from the fender.

can it hurt my car?

If i remove the air silencer can that mess up my computer or anything. The guy who sold my car to me said that if i put a aftermarket air filter on my car it will fry the computer. I guess the computer fryed on him and it had to be replaced by Ford. He didn't have a aftermarket filter on it as far as i know but it started to run funny so he took it to Ford they replaced the computer and it was all better. Thanks for the help guys.

I just happened to remove my air silencer on my 4.6L last Thursday. It was really easy. I haven't noticed a gas mileage increase, but I have noticed a tad bit more throttle repsonse.
