98 Silverado. Must be a starting problem.

I'm so frustrated.

I was having no troubles at all and then about 4-5 months ago my remote door locks stopped working. Figured dead battery, changed it, but no dice still wont work.

I looked here online and thought maybe I need to reprogram my remote but I never got around to it (you gotta hook up some jumpers under the dash or somethin I just didn't have time.)

Of course no remote door lock means no remote starter either (factory unit I'm pretty sure, everything else is) so I figured it was all the same thing. But also at this time I start to have problems starting the truck.

Insert key and get lights, radio, fuel pump all on but no crank. Nothing. But it does not click like a celenoid, it does absolutelly nothing. So I have to turn it all the way off and then on a few times and it kicks over. Sometimes a dozen times. When it is not working it's like I'm not even turning the key. Sometimes kicks over no problem. Intermittant problem. May happen every time for 3 days then may not happen for three weeks.

Brand new AC Delco reverse-torque-blah-blah-blah starter and battery one month ago ($400!) problem seemed to go away but last week it started again. AAUUGHH!!!

I've read through a ton of posts here and most of them talk about "tamper" mode and the Passlock sytem where truck dies after it cranks or cranks but wont start. But my truck just sits there quiet like I'm not even turning the key. My truck does not have any security lights on or anything. Eventually it just kicks over and runs like a top.

Should I try the bypass? What is this Crankshaft Position Sensor, that sounds like a possibility too?

If the passlock resister is shot would that stop my remote doorlocks from working right?

Passlock problem usually means engine will start, then die immediately. About 8 minutes later, computer will re-set and engine may (or may not) finally start and run.

I would check wire at solenoid connection for juice with a test light. Do this when you have the problem and see if you have juice at solenoid with key in cranking position. At least then you can start eliminating some things from the equation. I am tempted to say this is a bad solenoid, bad ground or bad connection somewhere. I would check all wires and cables and clean connections.

I haven't heard of a factory remote start, it may be the problem depending on how the wiring was done. You could try to hold the key in the start position(when it doesn't want to crank over) and tilt the steering column to a different position, possibly wiggle the shifter

Thanks guys. I will try these suggestions. wiggling the shift doesn't seem to help but I haven't tried anything else. My bad on the remote starter I guess it was just done at the dealer. Thanks for eliminating the Passlock scenario.
