wierd problem? how to fix? please help

i have a 1986 trans am 5.0 4bbl and when i turn the key nothing happens untill i manualy, when turning the key, pull the metal rod going into a sylinoid on the steering colum under the dash... when i turn the key obviously its not puttin this rod enough... what is worn out that causes this? is it the switch on the tseerin colum or the tumbler!? i am stumped.... i tried adjusting the switch but it doesnt move? do i have to take the steering colum out... i have no idea whats going on!?

ps also when i turn the key to acc.. i have to litteraly hold back or the acc power doesnt work... so is it the tumbler ?
