Major HP Loss... what in the &^&#*

Ok, Heres whats going on. the other day. got up to go to work and jumped in my car. cranked it up and went to work... and it drove fine. after sitting from about 9:00 - 5:00 I got off of work and jumped in it and went to go home. and I relized I had to get my car all the way into 3rd of 4th gear before I could reach 60 MPH and trying to keep it from redlining.. I use to be able to get up to 60 in 3rd as soon as I shifted in to it.. so im not sure. all I know is that I lost some power somewhere... and im not happy at all..

Max

sorry to say it, but you could be looking at just about anything. Could be your catalytic converter, fuel pump, fuel filter, distributor, cap, rotor. Are you getting any engine codes, is it miss firing, idleing rough?

maybe your timing jumped. could be a million things. anything else you noticed? maybe your carpet is bunched up under your gas pedal so you cant get it all the way down who knows...

I dont think you'll find anything doing a compression test. A couple things I would check first is pull each plug wire one at a time, put a screwdriver in the end of it where the plug would go and hold the screwdriver a couple mm away from a ground (i.e. a valve cover nut). Have someone crank the engine and make sure they see spark jump from the screwdriver to the nut. Another thing id look at is like i said earlier, your timing. What motor do you have? If you dont know how to do it, ask and we'll show you how to check it.

if your not getting the speed in a gear at the RPM your used to then i suspect your clutch is shot. 4200 rpm in my car is always 70 mph (5th gear)5100 is always 80 etc... if you used to be able to get to 60 in 3rd and now you gotta get into 4th it means your engine is spinning and not transfering the power to the tires the way it used to.

Re: Major HP Loss... what in the &^&#*

... I just put a F($#)ing Cluch in it... AHHHH Oh well.. what can you do.. I have a d15b2... ... with a performance or racing cluch is it harder to mess them up or is it just the driver... I know for a fact that I havent dumped the cluch. but I do know that I have had to pop start the car a number of times sence the new cluch was put in.. I baught the car and it needed a cluch and it has some shorts somewhere ... so sometimes I have to get someone to push me to start it.. would that mess it up... Is there a plate where I can check the cluch for issues

Re: Major HP Loss... what in the &^&#*

Ok... here is whats going on...
Basicly I have to shift quicker then I use to have to.. I use to able to get to 60 as soon as I shifted into 3rd and now I have to almost get it into 4th or 5th.. and if I dont shift, my car will red line.
and my car sounds deeper.. its like my car is strugling to go...
