Question Trans fluid change '02 GC

I'll be dropping the pan and changing the filter soon in my wifes 2002 Grand Caravan. I'm just curious how many quarts it will take to refill the transmission just by draining the pan.

4 quarts , start engine and let idle for a minute , run thru the gears and set in park or neutral . Check fluid level and add until it is 1/8 inch "below" the lowest mark on the dipstick (cold markings) . Run car until fluid is at full operating temps ,check and add if needed so that it is between the 2 "hot" marks . Per manual .

Re: Trans fluid change '02 GC

PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY OTHER FLUID OTHER THAN MOPAR ATF +4. If you use anything else, you will regret it and will cause you many transmission issues.

I am aware of having to use mopar atf+4, but I have also read that some Mercon V fluids are approved for use with atf+4 applications also. Anyone else hear of this?

Re: Trans fluid change '02 GC

that's somewhat true, I used to work for an independent transmission shop and we used Mercon V as a substitute ONLY if we couldn't get our hands on any ATF +4, but don't try to cut costs by using anything else; Chrysler transmissions are VERY sensitive to the type of fluid you use in them, if you don't use what's recommended by the manufacturer, you could void your warranty and cause chaos for your transmission.

Re: Re: Trans fluid change '02 GC

Few weeks ago, I tried to drop the pan but it was so stiff. It did not come out even after I removed all screws and used a screw driver to pry it out. How did you guys get the pan out?

Thanks,

TP

after you've removed all the screws, hold the pan in one hand and get a rubber mallard and tap around the edges of the pan to break it loose.
