I no nothing about cars! I have a '99 olds alero (60K) mileage. A humming or whinning noise when in gear and driving for lasat several weeks. Bought it to AMCO who said it might be the transmission converter. Anyonwe have this problem and how much should this repair cost. Thanks for help

Have you ever had the tranny serviced? Filter and ATF change only,
before spending big bucks on auto. transmission repair ($600 -$2000). You might want to get the computer scanned to see if there are any generic or manufacturer specific DTC error codes to include pending. Many times a tranny problem will not give you a SES light but hold certain codes for future reference, etc.

Is the car upshifting or downshifting normally? Do you get any shudder when accelerating hard from a stop? Is the torque convertor locking up properly when you are in overdrive (4th gear).

If you have the V6 or 4 banger your tranny should be a model 4T45E.
