Well being a 454 and all, And a old one at it to i dont think you will ever be seeing over 10 MPG. What are you at right now?

Re: Gas Mileage on 86 Chevy

Man... I get barely over 10MPG on my 350, although the cylinder walls are probably worn enough it adds a few cubic inches. It also has a pretty worn carb on it. I can swap my 350 straight up for a 454 (but I'd have to do all the work ), so I'm currious what mileage i could get with one, although I know they don't last as long as the 350s.

yeah a friend of mine has a 454 with a big lopey racing cam and some high flowing edelbrock on it and he CLAIMS he gets about 3 to 4 mpg. i mean with the cam and stuff maybe but it cant be that bad can it? i was thinkin that a stocker would get probly 6 or 7 miles to the gallon in the city under normal accelleration, since my 350 with a bad cam gets 9 or 10 when i drive it normally and up to 11 or 12 when i "blue hair" it and make 0 to 60 in like a minute lol

Re: Gas Mileage on 86 Chevy

That's about what I get with the hubs locked... but of course locked hubs means snow (mud season pretty soon!), which means letting it warm up before driving, and of course donuts, controlled fishtailing around turns, and throwing slush up on the ricers hoods.
