liberty fluid changes

My neice just bought an 03 libery, and now it's time for her first service and the dealer said that she needed a $400 fluid change, oil, trans, differentials. now my question:
what does this require to keep it under warrenty, and can i do this for her? and how many different types of fluids are required, she's new to this 4 wheel drive shit but i thought $400 was a little steap for $20 worth of fluids.

Re: liberty fluid changes

Oil, transmission fluid and filter, transfer case, front and rear differentials and antifreeze. Just how many miles are on this vehicle anyway? I have an 03 Liberty with 24K miles and all the fluids are original except the oil. I use Amsoil.
All of these fluids should be good other than the oil and transmission fluid. There should be a schedule in the owners manual of what fluids need to be changed and when. You can do every one of these changes yourself. I think the dealer is pulling someones chain or trying to steal someone's money.

Re: liberty fluid changes

First of all $400 is rediculous and $700 is totally absurd to change the fluids in a vehicle. You could purchase enough fluids for that amount of money to service two dozen vehicles. I would change oil, transmission fluid and if necessary change all the other fluids myself. There is no way I would agree to pay this dealer that kind of money. Besides, as long as the service is performed then who cares who actually does the work.

I will check my owners manual to see what is actually required and get back to you. It seems out of the ordinary to change all these fluids especially if the vehicle has not been used in an off road situation.

Re: liberty fluid changes

i agree both are stupid, my questions where what is required foe the 30,000 mile service, she doesnt have an owners manual, i am more than capable of doing the service for her, check my profile, and she is coming up here for the weekend this weekend. all i need to know is what the required service is.

Re: liberty fluid changes

I just spoke with my wife who had the book in front of her. The required maintenance for Schedule B which includes trailer towing and off-road requires the following: Replace Air Filter, Drain transmission fluid and change filter, change PCV valve, replace spark plugs and check and refill if necessary the transfer case. These are the only required items for the 30K warranty service. The dealer is just trying to make money!!!
