Lightbulb question

i know this my sound stupid but i lowered my truck this weekend and and i cut the front springs (come on and and say it) well i didnt have money for lowering blocks so me and my friends took 3 pieces of wood-a inch and a half a piece (4 1/2) and used them for blocks--it seems to be working alright--but you think it will hold for long

i lowered the front 4 inches and the back 4 1/2 inches

Re: question

im going to assume you used 2x4's to lower your truck, and clipped the springs in the front, am i correct so far? if so those 2bys will not last long, n' fact, i wouldnt trust them to be driveing my truck around on them, just stupid imo, if you dont have the money, or knowhow to do a job right, DONT DO IT. i would reccomend to take the wood out, buy a new set of front springs, and save up for a propor kit, if that wood gives your going to lose controll. and clipping springs is never a good idea, they were ment to take normal force at their length, shortening them, now you will bottum out easyer. all n all, i wouldnt drive untill fixed but thats only my

Re: question

If your in a accident and the insurance company sees that they'll refuse you coverage, whether it caused the accident or not.

Plus any roadside saftey inspection will see that and pull you off the road. They target lowriders

wrong, they will target anything that looks like it has money into it, jacked up, slammed down, fast as hell, its sweet filling to the krispy cream when its a kid, and they have an awsome poker face when they see 2x4's as drop blocks

Re: question

If it has 2x4 drop blocks it sure doesn't have money into it

where I live they target anything that looks like it's been modified, or old and un-maintained

That's why I bring my cars in for a quick safety as soon as I modify them, plus the fact that my neibour is an ass that would tell DMV a brand new car is unsafe just to watch me get pulled over and inspected. The guy is too big of a wimp to go within 200 feet of me though

Re: question

as far as holding out, i have to say this sound like a really dumb idea, no offense but using wood, what were you thinking the vibrationand water alone can cause it to warp, and that is besides the point that you will be driving this vehicle and you are goin to go over speed bumbs and things like that where the rest of the suspension will act as a big hammer on the blocks, and split them???

Re: question

A set of 3" lowering blocks are $30.00 from places like Summit or Jegs.

As far as cutting the coils 4" (I assume you did to get the full 4" in the front); that again is not very smart. Your whole front end will bounce and shift around. I cut my springs to lower the front end, but, but only 1 1/2 coils maximum (approx. 2" drop).

Why would you risk your life, passengers and everyone elses life driving around you cause you can't afford the right parts. I'm glad I'm not driving with you. Not very bright ...

Save your money and do it right with the proper equipment.

I would think that in your line of work you see all sorts of things like this movin2.

You probably have some stories to tell about cars that make this s-10 look stock. Although you probably shouldn't give the poor guy some more ideas

To me it sounds like you were planning on using it.

But if you weren't sorry

I do have a couple of questions though, or somethings for you to atleast think about

with 6 inches of drop in the back don't you have clearance problems with the frame? or is it notched?

Plus unless you had the drive shaft shortened you'll have problems when it bottoms out. Kinda the opposite effect of a 4x4 being raised without lenghtening the drive shaft
