1998 Windstar code numbers

Hi all,
My first post. My daughter found this site for me and I can't believe how many of the problems I have. The big one right now is the transmission. When you come to a stop at a light and then start to go the engine will rev but the car goes nowhere. If you put it in park and turn it off and restart it goes. This happened to my wife twice about two years ago and we thought nothing of it. I had the car and it really happened to me. I must of restarted the car about twenty times to get home. Only this time the engine reved up and the car hardly went. I get a code number of P1744 (manufacture control transmission). I can't find the code. Any ideas or possible remedy.
No unsual noises from the tranny before the problem.
Thanks
Mike

P1744 "Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) System Mechanically Stuck in OFF postition"

Seems to agree with the symptom that you describe.
Something that you should have looked at by a transmission tech. that you trust.
If you have a dealership that you trust....that would most likely be your best place.

I ran the code through my Alldata for my 97 and it mentions Excessive slip detected TCC Cal. Torque converter disengaged, EPC pressure at minimum.
The C1 test steps call for you to first inspect and remove the transaxle harness conector and inspect both connectors for bent, corroded, pushed out or misaligned pins. Loose wires or missing or damaged seals. Also look for frayed, loose or shorted wires anywhere between the trans and the PCM.
Any other diags need special test equipment.
Hope this helps.
Randy
