Re: police package
Nope you can't. You need to see the SPID in the trunk. It has to have the RPO 9C1 listed there.

Re: Re: police package
Incorrect on the bolt pattern guys.
ALL 91-96 B-bodies have a 5x5 bolt pattern.

what i found out from a mechanic is that if it has or had a police package on it you can easily tell by the speedometer.IF it was on there the speedometer would read 160 as top speed.

Only way to tell would be label in trunk. The codes are in alphabetical order. Look for the cod 9c1; if it has that code, it was made as a police package; if not, it MIGHT have been used for police work, but it was not built as a police package. Hope this helps.
One more thing to check, and I don't know for an absolute certainty. Check your radiator hoses. Normal ones probably have a black color; if they are a bright green, they they are the heavy duty ones that are ordered with the police package. This does not completely assure that it is a 9c1, but chances are if it was produced with that feature, it PROBABLY was a 9c1. Check out the following link for info about comparing police package (9c1) Caprice to civie Caprice and Impala SS: http://www.zianet.com/kc5kto/9c1/9c1.html |

Just wondering if the same would apply for the boxy ones, 1990 and down if the SPID is in the trunk. If not, would there be other ways? Thanks!

Re: police package
SPIDs on the trunk lids go back several years. My 89 has one. So does my 86. Not sure when they started using them.

I'm not sure when they started including the SPD labels in the trunk, but from what I understand, they've been around for a while. My '90 boxy has an SPD and I would assume the Caprice police package should have one all the way back to 1986 when Caprice police package was introduced. Before that, I don't know.

thepolice pkg. caprice has 12" rotors 13"drums 5on5 bolt patern 8.5"rear
end with 383 detroit locker posi.2"front and rear sway bars (can have a E VIN CODE!) BUT NORMAL 305-350 PARTS SUCH AS SERP.BELTS FILTERS ECT... WILL NOT FIT. YOU CAN ONLY USE PARTS MARKED FOR POLICE PKG. I HAVE A 1990 CAPRICE WITH AN E CODE AND IT WAS A MACOMB COUNTY MICHIGAN SHERIF'S SQUAD CAR STILL HAS THE METAL SERIAL # ON THE DASH. THE 305 POLICE ENGIN HAS MORE POWER&TORQ THAN STOCK 350 |

It is true that police package could come with 350 (VIN 7) or the 305 (VIN E) from 1989 to 1993. As far as posi rear-end, that was an OPTION that could be ordered but did not come standard with the police package.

im thinking it may not have the police package but it has the 5*5 bolt pattern, but i think it may of had the 305 replaced with a 350 so il have to check the engine code to find out. thanks for all your help, one more question, will the taillights from the 94+ caprice still fit in the 92? we also just ordered a impala ss grill which looks sweet
