1.6 Diesel Golf/Jetta 92 Check oil pressure from filter housing,checks 85 PSI!!!!

The chiltons manual says 28 psi. I have a new head on this diesel and new clutch now as well as new dricve axles, hub bearings ,struts. Oil pressure switch started leaking bad so I replaced it. Now it stays on all the time. Checked pressure from filter housing and checks 85 PSI. Is my oil pump bad like a prssure realese valve not opening. It stays 85 and goes no higher. Hope some one can help.

That specification is at idle at operating temp, is that when you are taking the reading?

That 85 PSI is at an idle. I thought it may be too high but my neighbor thinks it`s cut in half by the time it is up in the head. Also the pressure switch is flickering and will go out at an idle when the little diesel gets warm from idling. I presume the switch is for a different application . Got it at carquest. Still I would think the pressure would turn the switch off. The old switch that was oozing oil near the spade connector would shut off soon after the motor was started.

Yes the guage reads 85 psi while idling taken from removing the oil filter screwing on the adapter then the bell threads on. I just thought it seemed awful high for oil pressure. I am going to look for a pressure guage to mount from the head to the dash. Installed new thermostat, and fan kicks on if it has to idle motionless. Seems like it runs hot (halfway mark on the guage ),then when it goes over to three quarters on the guage ,the fan kicks on ,then it slowly cools down. It shouldn`t ever run hot at highway speeds.
