Re: looking for a cavi
you talk about the upper strut mount bearings and clunking, is this the same sound you hear when you almost come to a stop?

The 2.4 is expensive to fix, look for one with a 2.2.The 2.2 is cheaper to fix.I know what not to do to a 2.4,DO NOT TURN THE CRANKSHAFT BACKWARDS!If this happens, bends the valves and the cylinder head has to come off.

Re: looking for a cavi
Personally I like the 2.2 OHV engine better. It's easier to work on and dependable. Cavaliers are overall very good cars for the price you pay.

i have a 2.2L 97 cavy, and it gets around 28 mpg just really depends how old the oil is and stuff. i think that it has 120 hp. and i bought it last year for 3400 with tax title and license included in there. (i'm sure i over paide but according to the blue book at that time i got it about 3 or 4hundred off so i wasnt dissappointed)

Re: looking for a cavi
lol the 2.2L is not better than the 2.4L in anyway, except maybe gas mileage. If you like replacing head gaskets and getting the head milled, then go buy a 2.2L. Trust me i have owned both engines, and i will tell you from experience, the 2.4L is the better of the 2.
