I have a 96 neon with electrical problems. The fuel gauge works sometimes, the speedometer and temperature gauge only work when its cold out. I'm pretty sure I have a wire that has the outer insulation intact but is broken inside.when the fuel gauge works the speedometer and temperature gauge dont. sometimes when driving the gauges will quit but will work if I slap the dash. I've removed the instrument cluster and checked the connections and wiring. everything usuall works fine when its sitting in my lap.once i re-install it the problems begin.I was thinking of finding a wiring harness for the instrument cluster at the scrap yard and and soldering it in.Any ideas??

I had a simmiler problem. My fuel and temp worked sometime but my speedo did not. I know this sounds strange but do you find that you speedo kicks on sometimes or that they die from bumbs... putting alot, and I meen alot of preasure on you gauges to 'push them into the dash'. This worked for me. it turned out im my case that it was the crappy connector dodge has for the dash.. since they have no locking clip the wiggle alot, I also had to install a new speedo head... Got an intire cluster for 50.00 at a junk yard.
