Exhaust for 79 T/A?

I have a 79 Trans am with a Olds 403. For the past few years i'v had flowmasters on it with the cat so its not true dual exhaust and it sounded bad. So last weekend i got the cat took off and put straight pipes back to the flowmasters, original 40 series. I also had headers to put on it but the guy broke off the first bolt trying to take off the manifold and said it was impossible unless he pulled the engine and i dont have that much money. So i have the manifolds, dual exhaust, flowmasters and it i thought it would change the sound a lot, but really it hasnt. The idle is better and sounds louder and deeper but when i take off it doesnt really sound much different and the sound that it has is still pretty ugly. I though of putting glass packs on it but im not for sure what to do. Just want to know what would be the best sounding thing. I want it to be very loud but right now headers isnt an option so is there anything else i can do?

oh,good one, make it real loud, to attract every cop, but make sure to keep some change (that you are short of), when they found out you ain't got no catalytic convertor no more.no wonder the lawmakers want to cut the hobby and have us stop working on our own cars.

Re: Exhaust for 79 T/A?

hey i just found out that in north carolina a new laaw just past that anything 25 years and older is now totally exempt from emission testing and equipment, PARTY TIME!!!!! but in answer to the question flowmasters don't get loud i have a 79 with them and i hate them. look around for mufflers called twisters or spiral flow mufflers. they look like glass packs but are street legal and super loud and deep.
