540i strange electrical problems,radio,steering wheel controls

It started with the the air bag light coming on,then no horn,no buttons on steering wheel would work,then the radio went out,steering wheel moving up & down on its own,radio has sound but no display.Opened the vanity mirror everything came on.Doesnt always happen.It will work fine after driving a few minutes.Any suggestions?Thank you.

Though this may seem an odd answer, E39's have a failure problem in one contact of the electrical portion of the Ignition Switch [easily replaced by any tech. or do-it yourselfer] that causes these EXACT symptoms.

Thank you for your reply.I noticed several people with almost identical symptoms,very strange.
I'll go ahead and change the ignition switch.Did you ever change one? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

their easy to replace, see my posting of 12/1/04 on a similar symptom/complaint.
