Blackout Tape?

Is there such a thing? Seems like I saw or heard of this some time ago. Reason I ask is, I put the LTZ spoiler on my LS back when I first got it new. It is a subtle difference but makes the rear end look more complete. Now I've been thinking about going with the black panel between the taillights like the LTZ and Monte Carlos, but I don't really want to paint on it. If there was just some kind of wide black panel tape, I could do it that way without the hassle of paint, and just remove it if it looks wrong or I want to do something different.

Anybody seen any stuff like that?

what about getting one from junk yard, paint it and see what happens.
I just dont know how much one those will run at a junk yard.

Yes, there is something you may be able to use. Sometimes, instead of painting graphics on a car, customisers will use a "wrap." It's kinda like applying window tint, you put it on, then smooth out the bubbles. I'm not sure how it adheres. You may be able to get a small chunk of that stuff from a local custom body shop to apply to your deck lid, not sure what it costs. I was actually going to have the black on my monte re-painted with a gloss finish, because I can't stand the fact that the whole car is glossy except that piece. After going to the body shop to see what it would cost, however, I decided to live with it.

You are right! I've seen where they do whole vehicles with advertisement covering them, and it's a heat shrink, silkscreened wrap. Good idea. I think I know of a shop that does those. Thanks for the inspiration!

P.S. You could rattle can clear coat that black, and it would look good, long as it doesn't run. Had a Toyota truck that had some body parts repainted and they didn't match the gloss after weathering. I rattle canned them with clear and wet sanded with fine grit, looked great.

yeah, I thought about that too. the only problem being the chevy and the monte carlo emblems. I wouldn't want to spray over them, and you can't re-use them once you've taken them off (I don't think - it would be very difficult to obtain proper spacing again). I could maybe just buck up and go buy some new ones. I'll have to think about that one. thanks for the suggestion.

i may be wrong but i think those emblems are put on with some foamy double sided tape and you could reuse them as long as you clean all the tape off and then recut some tape to fit them back on. it may be a load of work to get the tape in the right shape, though.

M be able to peel them off with some dental floss or fishing line, then retape or use trim adhesive.

if you heat them emblem up with a hair dryer or heat gun, it will help it come off. (will soften the glue on back)
