VVTL-i

I was just wandering how exactly the VVTL-i works, or hondas Vtech (same principle)

i'm unsure exactly how the toyota version works

but Vtec for honda has a different set of lobes for high rotation speeds [high rpms], they both do about the same thing even though some honda people will disagree saying that vtec is the best [which isn't true], what these do is create/allow for the valves to open differently at different speeds, [www.howthingswork.com explains it],

valves work better at different speeds with different opening sizes, basically valves that open larger[high lift] are inefficient at low speeds as the air is moving too slowly, and low lift is inefficeient at high speeds restrictive, same with duration [time valves stay open]

VVT/VVTL-i/Vtec/MIVEC all do basically the same thing just the names given by the company making the car
