disable chime or door senser 1998 taurus?

1998 ford taurus.

I have part of my key stuck in my ignition. So the chime stays on when the car is off. This will drain my battery.

If I disconnect the fuse to it the wipers and interior lights wont work.

I could disconnect the battery after every drive, but thats a pain.

I could disconnect the fuse everytime, but thats also a pain.

Taking apart the ignition switch might be a burden. It also might not help - especially if the chime is actually SUPPOSED to go off anyway even if the key is in. If its supposed to go off anyway with the key still inside, then that means my door senser/chime is messed up.

I could either disconnect the chime itself somewhere in the area underneath the stearing wheel.

1) Where is the chime? If I look down under the steering wheel should I look towards the left or right of the steering wheel? Should I look up around/underneath the stearing wheel itself or simply the area by the fuse box? Where is the chime? I hear it but cant pinpoint it - what does it look like?

2) Where is the door senser? I could disconnect the door senser if thats what the actual problem is (and IF the fact the key is stuck inside shouldn't matter). I dont see any kind of senser - I don't understand how the car knows whether the door is open or shut.

I never had this problem before the key got stuck inside. However, even though the key is stuck inside the chime doesn't always stay on. This seems to imply that door ajar senser isn't supposed to work with the key out/off. Therefore, with the key stuck inside - the chime would still SUPPOSED to come on ONLY when when the door is really ajar. Thats why I think number 2 above might work even if I never get the key out.

Please help!

Turn the ignition to the run position. There is a small hole under the key cylinder in the plastic trim. Insert small punch/screwdriver in hole ans push sloghtly. This will release the lock cylinder and it will pull out. Then you can have the key removed, or cut the little wire that runs to the key cylinder. Your choice. Oh, remove negative cable on battery first. This will save the battery if it takes a while to complete.
