92 egr question

92 escort 1.9 man trans
is the tube from the egr to the exhaust pipe supposed to be cut 6 in below the egr valve? mine is and there is a braided sleeve covering the joint and running the length of the pipe held on with a hose clamp.
i just had my trans replaced and was wondering if those guys mickied it.

Sounds like the EGR checkvalve is missing.

about half way down the pipe that goes from the egr to exhaust there is a small outlet with a hose leading to a little box on the firewall. could that be the check valve ?

You should have a placcard on your car showing the vacuum diagram and components. You will have to trace out your vaccum hoses to identify the component you are describing. It would also be helpful if you told us what type Fuel Injection system you have.
