Feedback on 96+ 3.8/AWD models
I’m considering a 97 or newer Grand Caravan / Town and Country with the 3.8 and AWD. I am noticing a lot of posts concerning the 96, not surprising considering the first year of the redesign. I’ve always heard that you want to avoid the first 1or 2 years. I am also seeing a lot of posts on tranny problems. Was this really resoolved in 2001?
There was a good thread on 1996-2000 issues http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=309538 But now I would like your feedback specifically on the 3.8 with AWD. And along with the complaints, I’d like feedback from those who are having a positive experience. Thanks |

Consumer Guide is giving these vehicles a good rating.
http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/u...x.cfm/id/2132/ I'm thinking that people are only coming here with problems. It's not like anyone's a minivan enthusiast and posts for their love of the vehicle, like a mustang or camaro forum. And I see a lot of older model vans on the road, so I'm thinking they can't be that bad. No feedback from anyone? |

have 2003 Limited AWD 3.8
Has 41K on it now. Had 1 case of check engine light so far P0700 code which is transmission. Dealer said it was a mis-adjusted gear selector cable and fixed it for "only" $37. The car makes metallic sounding grinding noises from time to time, traced to near or in the tranny. Dealer won't do anything about it, but I have it documented with them. If I don't get the tranny replaced under warranty before the 7yr/70K terms I will probably dump the car just before 70K miles. Hope Honda has an AWD van by then! |
