Different Brand Swaps
Has anyone ever tried to put a GSX engine into a Civic?? Or maybe a 13b rotary turbo??
I was looking online for engine swaps and the prices of them and Honda was by far the most expensive per hp. You could buy a DOHC GSX turbo w/ a 5 spd awd tranny w/ all of the wiring for $1500-2000 meanwhile a K20A that has similar power is about $5400. WTF??? I just want to know how hard people think it would be to put some other brand of engine in a Civic....or any Honda for that matter. Ive seen an Integra with a Viper V10 in it and that's what kind of inspired this whole idea. I was really thinking that it would be cool if somehow you could put either the 13b rotary or the GSX turbo into a Civic and have it be either rear or all wheel drive. I know that this is a stupid and pointless question, but i wanted some insight. Thanks again and please don't tear this thread to pieces....because it was only an idea.

Re: Different Brand Swaps
I'm guessing it was a pic of the viper engine in the integra, and it's a fake (photoshopped, it was covered a month or so ago in the teg forum).
But time for the old song and dance... Anything can be done if you know how to do it and have a ton of $ to do it. Think about it this way. People do H22a swaps in Civics all the time. The price of the engine gets people's attentions, because it sports 200hp for the price of a b16a. But the problem is that it's not a direct bolt-in swap, and costs $1,500+ more to actually get the engine in and running. And this is a Honda engine, so think about putting another companies engine in there and even add rwd. It's going to end up costing far more than a K20a swap will; to get it in and working in your Civic. There is a ton of fabrication in making your economy FWD car into a RWD powerhouse. You'll have to figure out how to get the engine to mount into the car, cut the firewall and front of the floor to get the tranny in there right, cut the back end of the floor out to get the rwd axle in there, all the wiring you'll have to do to get the thing to even show any sign of life. So to answer your question, it's very hard, very time consuming (expect to spend months getting it done), and expect to spend a small fortune getting all the parts you'll need. If you really want a RWD car, then buy one that is already RWD. |

Re: Different Brand Swaps
That's pretty much the answer i expected....i was just wondering what people had done or if anyone had heard of swaps between brands. I also saw a Civic w/ an Acura Legend engine swap....that got me thinkin too.
I know that it would cost a lot to do this type of swap, but i just wanted some input.

Re: Different Brand Swaps
Yeah but a Legend motor in a Civic is a hard swap, no one even makes a mount kit for it.
But if you look around online, there are quite a few people who have done abnormal swaps. I've seen pics of civics with the Evo8 engine, civics and del sols with rwd converted h22a engines, crx with a big block engine (chevy or ford, I can't tell the difference). The worlds fasters Civic has a rwd NSX engine in it (stephen papadakis), might be turbo but I've never really looked into it. |

Re: Different Brand Swaps
Well the reason i was asking is because i know some people in town that have a shop and they are selling some old stuff they had on inventory. They're also selling a couple of items that they got for barely any money at an auction. They are selling a GSX engine, tranny, and all the wiring for $1800....they also have a Gen 1 13B rotary engine w/ the same as the GSX and they only want $1000. That's why i was wondering if i could swap one of those into my car. I realize that it would probably cost more in the end though.
