car kicks before shifting
Hi. I drive an '87 Escort 1.9L automatic.
I have changed the oil filter, gas filter, air filter, spark plugs & wires, alternator, and wire harness within the past month. Now she is doing something new. Hope someone can help When I am driving she is a bit sluggish, and before she will change gears she "kicks/bucks" hard then slips into gear. According to the original owner, the transmission was rebuilt a month before I recieved her, and she was not driven between the time of the rebuild and my purchase. I was told its a transmission belt, but I cannot find anyone that has ever heard of this. |

Re: car kicks before shifting
I have a 95 Escort GT that does the same thing but its only in the morning when im rushing to work. I pull out into the street and at the first stop sign when all is clear I step on the gas and the RPMS go up then *kick* the transmission kicks into gear and takes off. Im not sure what causes this, but its annoying, but it doesn t do it all the time, does urs? Try changing ur tranny fluid to Castrol ATF. Dont forget to change the filter too.

Thanks FedexMan... Its an intemittent thing, doesnt matter what time it is. Sometimes she will sometimes she wont. I can change the fluid again, but I really think she is having a problem. I need to figure something out. |

Re: car kicks before shifting
Have you checked the tranny fluid level? I know this seems silly, but low fluid would explain this behavior.

Actually. I just took her to a mechanic an hour ago. It was getting worse
he said my passing gear is going. So I need another transmission. |
