antifreeze leak in between tranny and engine block?

ive had a huge whiff of antifreeze comin at me for about three months now and i could never find a huge leak or a small leak. pressurized the radiator and nothing. i just today changed my oil and noticed that the leak is coming from in between the manual tranny and the engine block. what is that from and is it expensive or hard to fix? Thanks

Could be the intake manifold gasket leaking in the rear where the distributor is located and leaking or dripping antifreeze down the back where the engine and tranny meet. Run your hand, when the engine is cool, behind the distributor and along the manifold and see if you feel anything wet. If so, then you've found your problem.

Good luck.

May be your freeze plugs on the back of the motor!

i have had this problem it could be a rear freeze plug (bad news) or depending on the year of your s10 there could be a black metal tube that goes to the passenger side rear of the intake its probably rotted remove and get a new one or if you can"t get it out break it off retap the intake and use a small block water pump fitting and some 5/8 hose to repair it

Re: antifreeze leak in between tranny and engine block?

I have a similar problem... '97 Automatic transmission, and the coolant is leaking, pretty excessively from around that same location. I can see it dripping down the driver's side of the transmission right where it meets the block, and down onto the exhaust pipe. I can't see exactly where it's leaking... any ideas or things i should check to get myself 100% i know what's wrong?

I agree with jstchev about the freeze plugs.

Freeze plugs... Replace them with brass ones and you won't have to worry about that again.

Re: antifreeze leak in between tranny and engine block?

If antifreeze running down the outside of the tranny/bellhousing it is a badd intake manifold gasket or head gasket. If it drips out the bottom of the bellhousing it is more likely to be freeze plug inside the bellhousing.

i had a similar leak on my 82 s-10, 2.8L. i thought it may be freeze plugs, cause the dummy before me used water only. what a rusty mess. however, the leak was in the heater hose, where it goes into the block, just above the water pump. it leaked back toward the transmission, rather than near the pump. make sure all your clamps are tights, and the hose isnt rubbed or cut. good luck
