Engine Probs.

Ok so i have this s10 blazer. It has this 4.3l vortec. It doesnt like to run right.

The poblem is that it seems to have a lot of flat spots. Meaning when i am trying to move it will accel, flat, accel shift flat. at about mid rpms. why would it be doing this? it is kinda bothersome. Also when ever i drive longer than about 20 minutes it starts to miss. like, sputter and run very poor. Also why would it do that? It eats coolent too, but thats a whole other subject. thanks for any help!

Ever looked into where the coolant was leaking?

do a tuneup, and missing coolent, what does the oil look like? oil or milky oil? does your exhaust smell,... sweet, and finally check your water pump, could be commen from there

I have not looked into the coolent problem. however would that effect the flat spots? im taking this one problem at a time. the oil is oil, not milky. and i have done a tune up and it runs fine for about a day.

could be burning coolent, the coolent isnt combustable, so when it burns, theres no "power" from it like gas vapor burning, have somone rev the engine, get er high, and smell the exhaust, smell it at idel first, you will smell sweet instead of just exhaust, and then i would say yes its the cause of flat spots

intake gasket i beleve, head gasket would be milky oil, or do i have that backasswords?

channel locks/vic grips, if youve totally rounded the bolt, take a file and put a nice sized flat spot on it, then with the vg or cl, patiens in getting a nice firm grip and spin it free, if there is something left to the bolt, then try one size smaller socket or closed end of a box wrench, dont use the box end you can strip the bolt worse if you do

You can buy an oversized plug that will cut new threads. My honda's was slightly stripped and I used a "fram sure drain" on it. It tightened up nicely and now I don't have to remove it anymore.

I should add that the Fram Sure Drains make it easier to change your oil without making a mess, but there are two things that I don't like about them.....They don't have a magnet and they leave just a little bit of oil in the pan. (which is probably the oil with the most junk in it.

if you stripped the internals, like blazze said, you can buy a bigger plug, if its not bad, i would put a drop of black silicone on it each time, let it set up a bit and put it in, this will give you an oil tight seal, just make sure the silicon set up b4 you added the oil, if its worse then that, well i dont know, only thing is a new oil pan, if its the plug that is stripped just go to j yard and get a new one
