muffler noise I think?

Has anyone come across a funny noise when you first start to accelerate? I have a '01 Denali that I just purchased and when you first step on the accelerator I get a light rattle from the muffler area. When towing my boat it is much louder. It is only noticed when first starting off from a stopped position. I can grab ahold of the muffler and try to reproduce the sound ,but it just dosen't sound the same. It looks like there might be a heat shield above it, could that be the culpret? Thanks, Todd

Re: muffler noise I think?

Any advice on a avenue to fix the rattle I am hearing? Is it a matter of a loose fastener, or some way to brace the shield better? Thanks, Todd

Re: muffler noise I think?

Hi Todd,
the exhaust system is welded, there are no clamps.
Take it to your local muffler shop. They can tack the heatshield back on.
Or replace the muffler, if it is an internal baffle coming loose.
Take care, Eggert

Re: muffler noise I think?

i took it to the dealership to get the heat shield fixed and they told me it was a shiled around the 02 sensor. They replaced it and now the rattle is gone. Now the dealership is giving me the run around on a rearview mirror. Mine has a purple haze to it along with double vision? What is this about? Thanks, Todd

Re: muffler noise I think?

Hi Todd,
the purple color is from the liquid crystal used for doing the dimming.
Electricity is used to control the dimming.
If I remember right, air is getting to the liquid crystal and it is getting oxydized.
In any case, the mirror is mechanically broken and there is no fix. It needs to be replaced.
Take care, Eggert

Re: muffler noise I think?

Hi,
the mirrors are not that much, my guess is may be 200. The non-dimming ones are around 110 on the web. Take care, Eggert
