Rims, lowering...

I have a 97 GT and I am going to have a little cash to kick around in a few months. I want to trick out my vee dub and I have a few questions: First of all, how big can you go on rims without rubbing. I want to put on a set of 18s with lo-pros. Also, I plan on putting some drop springs in. The jetta already rides really low, but I think it would look sick dropped about two inches. also, i can't really get a straight answer out of anyone as far as rim prices go. I've been told that for a good set of rims you'll spend up to 2 grand, but I've also heard that I can get a good set for less than $400.

i think you can fit 20's on a jetta but i know you can get at least 19's (i wouldnt go any bigger anyways). for a good set of rims like bbs or something your going to pay around $2000 but if you look around you could probably find a used set for around $1000. you could find rims for around 400 but i wouldnt trust the quality, they will probably dent and scratch easily, with rims you usually get what you pay for.

i've got a black 97 Jetta GLX VR6

i jsut put on a set of 17" rims and tires with no problem. u may be able to go 18" but then u have to pay very close attention to the width and rolling diameter of the tire. especially if u plan to lower it.

i did a set of 17"-7" Motegi FF7's with 205/40-17 Toyo Proxes 4's

retail cost is just under $1200
i also plan to lower it about an inch just to fill the gap in my wheel wells.
for that i think i am jsut gonna do a set of eibach springs.
parts/labor come to just under $500

i am just getting started on this project
