hard steering cure (problem found)

Back a couple of months after having a new rack put on my steering, I developed a problem that made my power steering feel like it was air locked. After months of problems and 2 new racks, 3 new pumps and new lines which cost me over $600.00 at a local garage, I found the problem myself.
When the garage put the first rack on and poured power steering fluid in the reservoir, the seal from under the cap of the power steering fluid fell in the reservoir. It would float around and get sucked against the opening going to the pump and starve the pump of oil. When this would happen, the steering would stop working and push fluid out the breather hole in the filler cap.
This turned out to be a very expensive problem. This was on my 88 T-Bird Turbo. I hope this helps others.

When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone

Though they sink through the sea
They shall rise again
Though lovers be lost love shall not
And death shall have no dominion.....
