Engine knocking

Need some advice. Oil lines came loose and all oil drained out going down the highway. After getting it towed and oil lines tightened the engine knocks quite loudly now. Not sure what problem is i.e. blown head gasket, cracked head, or lifters. Any suggestions on possible problem or additive that can be used to quiet the knock just to get rid of vehicle? Thanks for the advice in advance

Re: Engine knocking

If it's knocking from lack of oil, most likely the rod bearings are worn or spun and the crankshaft is scored. You can try a heavier weight oil or a thick additive, though usually the noise won't totally go away especially when hot.

Re: Engine knocking

Did you continue to drive it without oil pressure?

Re: Engine knocking

Yes it sure was. Oil was bone dry had ran out from loose oil line by the oil filter. Tried putting oil in just to get it to the garage but upon starting all oil pumped right out due to the loose lines. Had lines tightened and oil level and pressure is fine but now the good old knocking

Re: Engine knocking

Man, that is too bad too.

2000 as well. Real shame.

You can pick up another motor cheap though off of ebay and swap it right on.
