N/A KA24DE (CA, CARB Exempt, Street Legal)
After reading numerous and old threads I've decided to go N/A even though I want a turbo. I knew it was bad in CA but I didnt know u could fail a SMOG check for having a turbo setup even though it passed the emissions test. And I didnt know that the cops can impound my car if it does have a turbo. I figured I was just given a fix-it-ticket. I read that GREDDY has a CARB Exempt Turbo so I was going to look into that and see if I could get away with having that. Anyone have any recommendations or input on this matter??

well i could understand if you're in cali...
i guess it's playing it safe... which is smart in it's own sense. It really depends how much you wanted the turbo setup. I think someone should go for a fully naturally aspirated KA and beat some sr's with it... lolz... it's not impossible i can tell you that.

Only thing...
If you want a trubo bad enough i could put in a couple hours under my car putting the stock exhaust system back on...then putting turbo everything else on when test is over. Leave inter Cooler piping there and just get the HKS end filter for the end of your FMIC...iunno if im making sense

Yeah, maybe you can make the most powerful NA KA out there, or move out of state, like right on the edge and drive in everyday. :-P

Does anyone know of a CARB certified header or exhaust for our cars? I was checking and saw that Hot Shot Headers are not CARB certified and I really dont feel like swapping out too many things every 2 years.

Should(Could) I swap a 1997 KA24DE into my 1993 for $550? The 1997 has 100,000 miles while my 1993 has almost 160,000. I was asking cuz the Greddy turbo kit would have to be put on the 1997 engine since it is CARB Legal and therefore I still could Turbo the car. Let me know.

There in lies the problem. Its from our friendly online retailer, ebay motors. Its at $305 right now(2 hrs. to go) but I can try bidding on it and then pay 150 for shipping.

what i normally do is read all the feedback and see what people say about the company or person and if its sketchy whatsoever then i wouldn't buy it.. but if its a reputable company or guy then go for it

Ok good advice but to answer my question: Can you put a 97 or 98 KA24 into a 1993? Im pretty sure you could but I would have to get a new ECU right? and wiring harness and all that stuff.

Re: N/A KA24DE (CA, CARB Exempt, Street Legal)
Swap in some SOHC pistons, do a cam upgrade(JWT, PDM racing), IHE with high flow cat, and an ECU upgrade. You'll be puttin some power down. Also consider weight reduction along with drivetrain mods like a lighter clutch/flywheel/driveshaft. An ignition system wouldn't be a bad thought. Just for now, advance base timing a couple degrees for some extra power. Don't run 87 though if you advance. www.ka-t.org/tech will tell you how.

Re: N/A KA24DE (CA, CARB Exempt, Street Legal)
Intake and Header where going to be first upgrades. And then new clutch, flywheel, and pulley set from BD following after. Internals and ECU were going to be last since its running fine now, kinda wanna get a ECU that will work with the setup I have, and $$$. By the way do you know of a CARB certified header? And what's a good cat, doesnt have to be CARB certified since thats an easier swap. And Im running 91 cuz thats the best Cali can do (So concerned about CARB legal but cant get better gas).

Re: N/A KA24DE (CA, CARB Exempt, Street Legal)
Well, you have to spend money to make your car go fast. No one way around it. Greddy stuff is almost always carb certified. And I believe the Hotshot header is as well. JWT may have an ECU that will work with stock stuff, but 370s are only like $100 on Ebay. Cams are pretty much undetectable by the average joe. IDK if they will show up on smog, but I doubt it. Catco.

fuck no its not a 220hp NA ka24de is not really that hard to do, it would be less money then swapping in a stock Sr20det.... and it would beat a stock sr20det and probably take on some with I/E. |
