Question For BlazerLT: Optima Red Top

I am in the market for an Optima red top myself, and I recall you saying that you had one. Which one is it? The shop monkeys at the one place in town that sells them checked their big book and came up with, "There is none made for your year/model truck." I figured since I was going to be replacing worn looking battery cables, might as well upgrade the battery as well. So in short, which model #/size/part # is your Optima Red Top 6-pack? It's going into a fully loaded 4-door '95 Blazer LS, VIN "W".

I have one in my 1995 and it is awesome.

Measure the base dimensions of the battery and go in and get one that matches it.

Gotchya, 5x5. The folks I talked to said that the top posts would interfere with hood closure. Looking around a little more on the web has revealed not only appropriate part numbers (because they have recently changed) but now list dimensions. When I get the one that matches, I will post the data here fo all to share.

I read testimony from another fellow that had an Optima battery. He kept swapping it into his new cars when he bought them. Thus far, he says it's running strong after 9 years and under the hood of his 4th car. They are totally sealed too, meaning that they can be mounted in any position, and do not vent gasses when charging. Hello, can you say "Goodbye to rotten side terminal posts and cables"? I had one in my Subaru and she lit up like a firecracker with just a tap of the key. I wanted to get the same with my truck and ditch the stock GM "Green eye" monster that only develops half of the power that there Optima does @ 32 degrees. Basically, I agree with you, there is far more to gain from these batteries than is lost. Sure they cost 2x as much as a stock replacement, but they last so much longer and are so much tougher. What spurred the Optima choice in my Subaru was the fact that I shattered two brand new batteries when I went off-roading in it. The Optima withstood the abuse without a hitch.

Yellow tops are for deep discharge/stand-by use. Though they CAN crank an engine, it shortens their life some. Use them when you want to power radio/audio equipment, or on a boat with a trolling motor. For *Automotive* use, a Red Top is what you want. For marine, powering your subs and stereo for show and seasonal use, you want a bank Yellow Top batteries.
