Re: valve ticking

You've checked the oil level?

Re: valve ticking

You only have one ticking? When was the last time you did a valve adjustment?

At a certain amount of miles, (over 50K) 4cyl accords are known for valve tapping.
You can use some STP oil treatment. It's about $3 from Pep voys or Autozone. That should rectify the problem. Use it after each oil change.
It provides extra lubrication during start ups where valve tapping is most common

well my car has 195000 miles on it. How much should a valve adjustment cost? My friend told my that any additives never work. Said there are used just to make you feel better. it sounds like more than one of them are ticking

Re: valve ticking

Don't use STP oil treatment. It is motor honey and increases the viscosity. Honda recommends valve adjustments about every 45K miles.

Re: valve ticking

Don't use motor honey. Valve adjustment is a process of adjusting a screw on the rocker arm above each valve so that there is a set clearance between the valve top and the rocker arm when the engine is cold and the valve is closed (TDC for that cylinder. ) Requires a wrench, screwdriver and a feeler guage.
