Angry BMW E39 Stereo/airbag light

Hi

BMW 520i SE 1997

I have recently experienced intermittent problems with my airbag light coming on whilst driving, also my stereo and clock display have died, although the radio is still on, unable to change radio channels or switch the stereo off! Air bag ligh stays on!

any ideas, or has anyone experienced similar issues.

Re: BMW E39 Stereo/airbag light

I just had this happen. Looking for answers. If I hit the steering wheel, it comes back on for while. Typically until my next car start.

Let me know what you find out please. I will do the same.

When you open the passenger vanity mirror the radio comes back on.

Very strange.

Fixed by replacing the ignition switch. Its seems as thought the contacts on the switch wear out, causing strange electrical issues.

Takes about 30 minutes to replace. The switch itself is quite cheap at BMW ( must be a common fault)
