Question turbo thoughts? help!

Hi, I have a 99' Sebring LXI and I want to install a turbo system on it. So I have a few questions. Will a turbo from a Mitsubishi Eclipse bolt onto the Sebring since both are Mitsubishi motors? And what I'm really praying on is will a twin turbo from an older Dodge stealth work as well and how hard will it be to install with the mods and all? And one more thought, how hard if possible at all would it be for someone to make the Sebring 4 wheel drive, same as the Stealth and 3000 GT are with the twin turbo? Thanks for all your ideas.

Re: turbo thoughts? help!

WOW, I am intrigued at your endeavors........if you have the cash to spend to make all these mods, you go right ahead, my friend. Just as a bit of advice, 99 Sebrigns came stock w/ a 2.5 liter V6, Eclipses have a 2.4 liter 4 banger. If you want to put a turbo on your engine, you're going to need a new engine because the bottom end (the crank, connecting rods, bearings, etc.) are not strong enough to handle the high pressure of turbocharging; you'll need to have a forged bottom end. If you can find a Dodge Stealth/Mitsubishi 3000GT motor, with some mods probably to the motor mounts, transmission mounts and all that other good stuff, I'm sure you could do it. I don't remember the Stealth/3000GT having an automatic, and Sebrings DO have auto, so you'll have to convert that by adding a clutch pedal, master cylinder, and all that other good stuff. If you want to do it, it's entirely up to you. There's too much stuff that needs to be done that would make it damn near impossible to pull off.

WOW, hey bro you seem to know your cars!

My 97 sebring wont pass 4000 rpm when i punch it on the highway. Is this normal? and what do you recomend to get a little more punch out of this car without changing motors and all that stuff. wondering if they make a computer programmer that would allow you to set shift points? and how high this thing revs up too???

Well, I'm not sure about the 97 model, but my 02 hits about 5500-6000 rpm when I punch it.

So if I have an 02 Sebring LX with the 2.4L 4cyl. will the Eclipse turbo bolt up good, or will I still need forged bottom end and other mods?

Same company different engines. Hahn racecraft has a kit for the sebring look into it. You can make any turbo work, it's the exhaust manifold and flange that you will have to have fabbed up! Also, to turbo a car you need more than just the turbo, there is alot more work involved. You need an oil feed line, return line, bigger injectors, fittings, piping, intercooler, BOV, wastegate and yadda yadda....buy a kit and slap it on!

Since when? They are 2.0L and the engine is a 4g63 for the turbo and 420a for the N/A. The turbo from the 4g63 will not bolt up the 420a engine so no turbo will bolt right up to the sebring engine. It can work with an adapter though. Hope this clears it up for some of you.
