I want to get into street raceing

I readed the frist post about buying a car and I looked up cars but I am just getting into it so I don't know what I am looking for 100%(just a sport car lol). I want power but under 20 grand or less car to buy. I was thinking of going for a 97 eclipse (because I love that look) but I was told that they max at 120...now to me thats not fast my dirtbike goes about 70-80 and its only a 125cc. I love to race on a dirt bike and I got the feeling it is the same way in a car. I love just driven my truck around(standard). But it has been 4 years and my truck is about ready to go(not really but I have put to much money into a worthless truck).
As for looks I that 1999 skyline/1997 eclipse/2000 celica. That skyline is a great car but way to much cash for my taste. I would put a down paypament on a house if I had that.

well thanks for the help and like i said I am a newb to this stuff im just getting into this. Ill be posted much more on these forums in the future.

Re: I want to get into street raceing

120 is plenty fast, especially if you're a beginner. Plus, as you get more power, you'll probably need a standalong EMS, which will take are of the limitor. The problem with Eclipses generally is reliability, but if you're comfortable with a wrench, then go ahead and get one, but make sure you go with the AWD. I would suggest Nissan 240sx as well as F-body cars with the LS1

Glad you said something about reliability, I will need to sell my truck and get this car as my solo main car. Because car insurance will just be way to much. I am fine with working on the car but I just can't have it like the rx7s as I hear so much about. As for the 240 I can't do that my best friend "says" that is what he is going to buy as soon as he gets the cash together so I don't want to hear I just got it because thats all he talks about.

Re: I want to get into street raceing

don't let your "best" friend talk you out of a car... you get a car because you like it and your comfortable in it, not because your best friend is going to get it. We aren't in 2nd grade here, you are allowed to have the same car. Plus..its not your fault that he didnt have the money to get it before you.
Now of course that standpoint only holds true if you want to get a 240sx. I just wanted to point that out because i don't think anyone should be able to tell you what car you "can and can't" have.

If you like a car, get it. if not than keep looking

well..he did say a sports car. I don't know granted that it is an R/T i just don't view a stratus as that much of a sports car. Thats just my opinion. I think we should also be asking him whether he wants to go domestic or import. (i didn't say start flaming on either one...just what he would like to do. NO FLAMING )

Yes I understand that, I will keep it in mind but I would go with a supra or celica before a 240.

Yeah thats what I was thinking that stratus doesn't fall in a sport car.

As for the domestic or import, I don't mind ether I just have a limt on cash 20k. I could go more but thats just all I want to spend. I am just getting started into this so I don't have the full understand of those category.

Domestic= around the nearest dealer
Import= have a car imported to were I live(USA)

Thats what I belive it means am I right or wrong?

Edit:

Re: I want to get into street raceing

o..no..import and domestic are not as you have described...import refers to honda nissan toyota, mitsubishi, subaru, and all other non- AMERICAN cars

domestic refers to dodge, ford, chevy, gm, and what not.

since you have 20k, do you want a newer car with not as much extra money, or would you like to buy a car that is used and a little bit beat and than drop the rest of your money from your 20k into it.

theres alot of options here so i'm just trying to narrow it down for you.

Yes I understand that, but by getting into street racing I mean understanding the parts/speeds/upgrades and more. I mean just learning the automotive aspect slowly.

Re: I want to get into street raceing

you dont need a modified car to race.

lots of people here have stock or near stock cars and race them.
with 20k i would so be getting a trans-am or s14 240sx.

hell for that much you could pick up like a 02-04 wrx, which is good too.

Yeah I got that after I made that post about the import stuff.

for the cash deal I don't mind ether way. I like going with the older cars because the newer cars I just dont care for the look they have. like the eclipse from 97-03 theres a big change and I don't care for it.

haha... Drift is right, you just start doing it. I have a quesiton though...you speak of 120 like it is nothing. Granted that many of us here, including myself, have broken the 120 barrier, i think that i will have backup when i say that driving 120 or above is not as easy as you may think as a beginner. No only is it not as easy as you think but its dangerous.
I understand that you want to get into the whole streetracing scene and what not, but remember that you risk other peoples lives as well as your own when you race, so speeds in excess of 100 are very dangerous if you don't know how to properly handle your car.
Before you get all "happy go lucky" with you car, whatever it may be, i would suggest that you get a good feel for it and drive it for a while before putting money into mods (modifications) and what not.
