What kinds of tranmissions do these things have?
How can you tell what kind of transmission you have?
i.e., the number of gears, gear ratios, with/without overdrive. Can it be decoded from the VIN? Mine is a 2000 1500 Silverado, LT Z71 Offroad Sportside w/5.3 engine. Would be nice to know what is translating all that power to the wheels.

Re: What kinds of tranmissions do these things have?
Here are the specs on the 4L60E: http://media.gm.com/division/2005_pr...specs.html#m30
To find out what you have, you need to look at the RPO codes printed in the glovebox. Most likely, you will find M30 for 4L60E. //2000CAYukon |

That one has the 4l60e in it up to a 6.0L engine. If a GMC or Chevrolet fullsize truck has the 8.1L engine or the Duramax diesel,it has the 5 speed automatic Allison transmission
