transmition

Ok I can build a motor blindfolded but I know dick about transmitions besides how to change a clutch or torque converter. My question is what kind of tranny is in my 92 1500 z71 sierra, it is a 5 speed manual with 4x4. I am also looking for a good sturdy replacement. My motor has had some wor done to it and the original tranny didn't agree with it.

Re: transmition

You have a Getrag 5sp, designed in Germany bought by GM. I would recommend finding yourself a 4L80(TH400) and beef it up. You don't have to know much about automatics in order to rebuild one. Just use common sense and a clean work area. Talk to www.sonnax.com for recommendations on what you can do and what tranny will hold up fine to your application. Check out www.atsg.biz and look in the "bookstore" section to find a rebuild manual. You may find other sources of information at www.atsg.biz that will be very helpful. -Chris

Re: transmition

That is an option I have considered but I would really like to stick with a manual tranny.
