broken exhaust manifold stud from d16a6
I don't understand why it would cost $125 bucks just to remove a header to back off a broken stud which isn't flush with the head. The local Honda mechanic said there is no exhaust leak to speak of even though I can feel some air there... maybe I'm just sensitive. Anyway, my car seems to run okay, but I may try removing that stud at some point in the future. Are exhaust manifold studs expensive? Is this something I should worry about? I'm starting a new job the week after next and will have to commute a good 40 miles to and from work each day.

Re: broken exhaust manifold stud from d16a6
hahaha, i can help with this one. I just had to replace all my studs in my mitsu. 2 of them broke and were striped out and the others just were old. So i orders a set of stanles steel ones from slowboy racing.com and they are great!!!
now you can go to your local LOWS or HOME DEPOT and go to the bolt sec and you will see they have some that are already cut and good to go. I had to get some bigger ones from LOWS because the 2 were striped. Get a grade 5 bolt, that is the best they have and that should be good enough. Now to get the old one out if you can't put 2 nuts on it you will have to get a metal drill bit not to small because it will brake. Drill a hole in it about half way or a little less. Go to the auto parts store and get a tool that looks like this....... ![]() then when you drill it, it will exstract it the other way and taadaa out it will come. The threds are like a screw going the wrong way, so as you drill in it drills out. see what i am saying?

Re: broken exhaust manifold stud from d16a6
Thanks. I understand what you mean. My buddy has an easy out but not a small enough bit. One of the studs on the other side of the head came out cuz the bolt was seized to it, but I managed to just put the whole thing back in. Maybe this is a hint to go get a y8 head...haha... Thanks again, CBURKE!

Re: broken exhaust manifold stud from d16a6
Yeah but you may spend more time and may mess something up trying to fit that big ass wrench in such a tight spot.

Re: broken exhaust manifold stud from d16a6
i would say both ways would work, but the way CBURKE said to do it, i think would be the easyest way to do it. they work great
