300+ hp 2.8?

i came up with this idea to take my 96 a4 2.8 12v quat, n srip the engine out , rebuild the block, but should i use the 30v or 12v heads??????
its gonna be an engine rebululd up with many goodies like cams...........,n how much i can spare in $

will the 98+ 30v work into an older 9612v car electronically?

Re: 300+ hp 2.8?

I understand from someone with good engine knowledge that yes it will with a lot of work. But to be honest its not worth it, try and find a shagged 30v lump and get the ECU and rework that but your not goner see 300hp even with a Supercharger.

In regards to the electrics you can’t do nish with the ECU but you might be able to fit a UNIchip that pig backs on to the ECU.

If you do chage over to the 30v at least it will be a dohc engine but liek the other guy said it is alot of work and money you would have to get a new ecu. And the 30v head are hard to find since they dont make the 2.8 any more. I would just look for a complete 30v because there really isnt much that you cna do with a 12v if you want to stick with the 6 cylinder

Re: 300+ hp 2.8?

iwas oringinally thinking of doing a 2.7bi-t swap, but doing all the research i found u can get more power out of the 2.8.
that is completely rebuild it with every race component on the market for it, their there u just got search hard for them.

at that point if i sc it i might as well just get a whole engine management system for it with an upgraded 30v chip.

does any one know if there is a way to swap a s4 6sp tranny into the 2.8?

Re: 300+ hp 2.8?

the only thing is supercharger take power to make power and it will make your engine life shorter to. and you cant really put on a turbo on a 2.8 the programming doent really like it and if u are willing to make one it take quite a bit of money and time.

Re: 300+ hp 2.8?

ya i know plenty about the supercharger,
right now im in automotive school and im being givin a project to take my 96 quat 2.8 and make it nasty.
by rebuliding a 98+ 30v and make 300 hp out of it
with the all of the right race components and and a intercooled supercharger, all i need to figure out is the ecm and try to convert it to a 6sp tranny,

or has any one sucessfully done an s4 engine swap into a older a4........ if so let me know, but i think it would be a mess of problems

Re: 300+ hp 2.8?

Never been done as I know and some links to this engine mod stuff would be nice.

To convert the drive train you will need the rear diff and box with the gear linkage.

You will then need to make up new hanging points for the drive train, as they are different.

There as been a case where someone modified a VW Passat 2.8 and slung on two turbo's but he could only run 7psi no more than the SC (8.5psi) and he still got running problems.

The problem with the 2.8 is that the walls are too thin hence why Audi drop the engine size down to 2.7 so that they could run greater psi.

But I just remembered a company here in the UK that recon they could bore out the lump to a 3.0.

yes, my friend put the s4 engine and tranny into his 98 A4. I dont know much about it, but it took him a lot of work and money he said.

his car runs soooo nice now though. it came out very good after all the headaches. he has a 3 or 4 stage chip that changes the programs depedning on the gas by using the Cruise Control button. Very nice machine though.

I really wish I knew more...but I do know it can be done. I have driven his car before and after.

why not go the easy way

i may not be as knowlegeable as the rest of you but here goes

there are several companies making supercharger kits for the 2.8

try looking for pes performance online, this company provides all the neccessary ecu software and additional engine mods that a charger will require

second find a good exaust or have one made, (personally i had a shop mandrel bend a 2.5 inch exhaust for my 1.8t out of ceramic piping and got rid of one muffler) that should make the charger work better

get a good intake, hks is my favorite seeing as how their megaflow kit made my engine run wonderfully, yet again this should improve horsepower and help the charger out

intercooler would be good, as well as a cryo intake/ intercooler kit, this is a little known about part however it looks interesting despite its obscurity, it is basically a liquid co2 tank tha connect to a adapter for your intake and dramatically drops air temp in intake and it comes with another adaptor that will spray the liquid on your intercooler (they say it increases intrcooler performance by 50%), not constant power however at the twist of a knob it should give you an extra kick

denso iridium plugs are always a wise choice along with a good wire kit

since you have a v6 a crank pulley and lightened flywheel should free up a few more ponies, don get the full underdrive pulley set as this will make your alternator run bad among other things, cams are also to be taken into consideration

dependin on whereter you ever want this thing to touch public strreets without beeing pulled over by the first cop that sees you migt keep the cats or ditch them

and all in all this should get you pretty close to your target 300, it is a shame that you do not have the 30 v as THAT WOULD HELP ALOT

and if by now you dont have pistons shooting out your hood a squirt of nos here and ther might compensate for any deficit

never the less i strongly believe in the potential of audi engines
i believe i am managing a good 210 to 220 at wheels out of my turbo quattro off of just neuspeed p chip(thinking of swithching to apr since i can still turn off for smog) hks megaflow 2.5 exhaust cat back and densos ive recently put a boost gauge and turbo timer in it as well for the safety of the turbo next on the list is a crank pulley

PES only makes a supercharger for the 30V, the only company that makes a supercharger for the 12V is Motodyne (which ive mentioned in other threads). though i havent heard good things about them, i dont know if they are legit claims. i would check into the company throughly before buying one. and as far as an intake goes, i believe that is unneeded because a supercharger is basically an all new intake system.
